When choosing a new furnace, look for a high annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) rating. AFUE ratings reveal how well furnaces convert fuel into heat energy. All electric furnaces have AFUE ratings of 100%. High-efficiency gas furnaces can reach AFUE ratings of up to 98.5%. These models convert 98.5% of the natural gas they consume into heat energy and release just 1.5% as emissions.
High-efficiency furnaces have two heat exchangers, sealed combustion chambers, and other upgrades that limit fuel waste. However, transitioning from a mid-efficiency furnace to a high-efficiency model could mean choosing a new storage area, installing a new venting system, and sacrificing more indoor space.
Natural gas and electric heating both have advantages and disadvantages. Natural gas is efficient and clean-burning. Electricity doesn’t produce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, but producing electricity often does. You can discuss these and other factors with our installers to find the right furnace type for you.
During furnace replacement, we use the Manual J Load Calculation to ensure accurate sizing. Old heating equipment is removed, and new furnaces are installed. We connect furnaces to HVAC air ducts and make all the air duct modifications. We also install and calibrate thermostats, install or refine exhaust systems, and test furnace performance.
